Back Pain Q & A

Why does back pain happen?

Back pain can happen for many reasons. Auto accidents and other trauma cause sudden back pain in many cases, while other back pain cases are chronic. Sciatica, spondylolisthesis, facet syndrome, herniated disc, muscle strain, and ligament strain are all common causes of back pain. Many overweight people and pregnant women have back pain due to extra pressure on their spine. Regardless of the cause, Aligned Health Center can help.

What happens during the first back pain visit at Aligned Health Center?

During the first visit, patients will be asked to complete new patient paperwork. If patients wish, they can print the forms ahead of time. This can shave about 15 minutes off the first visit. A personal consultation is next. During this consultation, the patient will have a chance to talk about their current health conditions, health history, and treatment goals. After the consultation, the chiropractor will perform a thorough exam. In addition to a hands-on exam, neurological and orthopedic exams may be needed. The chiropractor will evaluate the patient's range of motion by having them move forward, backward, and sideways. They will also palpate the spine using both static and motion palpation to determine what type of correction is needed for the back pain. Some patients may need a digital postural x-ray after the chiropractor's exam. Postural x-rays can help the chiropractor pinpoint subluxations. This type of x-ray also reveals exactly how the posture has become misaligned and whether there is any degeneration in the spine.

How is a treatment plan for back pain designed?

The Report of Findings appointment usually occurs within a few days of the first appointment. During the Report of Findings appointment, our doctor will discuss all the information gathered in the initial appointment with the patient. He will talk with the patient about their health issues and explain how a customized care plan will resolve those issues. Back pain treatment will re-mold the spine, giving not only relief from pain but also better wellness overall.
